No, and I'll always tell you honestly if I think it isn't the right approach for you. PRP works best for androgenetic alopecia, the pattern thinning driven by genetic sensitivity to DHT and for telogen effluvium, the diffuse shedding that follows hormonal change, physical stress, illness, or nutritional deficiency. It is less effective for alopecia areata, scarring alopecias, or hair loss in completely dormant follicles where the follicle itself is no longer viable. The assessment matters. I'd rather refer you appropriately than take your money for a treatment that isn't going to work.

Do I need a blood test before starting?

Not always, but often yes and I'll explain why. Hair loss rarely exists in isolation. If you're also experiencing fatigue, skin changes, weight fluctuation, or irregular cycles, those are signals that something systemic is contributing to the thinning. Thyroid dysfunction, iron deficiency, oestrogen and testosterone decline, and elevated cortisol are among the most common drivers, and PRP alone won't address any of them.

PRP works differently: it uses your own concentrated growth factors to improve the health of the follicular environment itself, supporting the biological conditions in which healthy hair growth is possible. The effects are not permanent, maintenance sessions are required but the mechanism is regenerative rather than suppressive. Many patients use PRP alongside other treatments rather than instead of them.

In the 24 hours before treatment: avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements where possible (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E), avoid alcohol, and come with a clean, product-free scalp. After treatment: avoid washing your hair or applying any products to the scalp for 24 hours, avoid intense exercise and sun exposure on the day of treatment, and skip saunas or steam rooms for 48 hours. These aren't arbitrary restrictions — they're about keeping the injected PRP where it needs to be while the growth factors begin their work.
