EMSculpt uses electromagnetic energy to make the muscles under the applicator contract strongly and repeatedly. Over a course, this aims to strengthen and tone the treated muscles. At our clinic we treat the abdomen, the buttocks and the inner or outer thighs. There are no needles or incisions, and you can carry on with your day straight afterwards.

No. EMSculpt is a muscle-conditioning treatment, and it isn't a weight-loss treatment or a substitute for healthy eating and exercise. It suits people who want firmer, more toned muscles in a specific area. If your main goal is to lose weight, your GP or a registered dietitian is a better first step, and we're happy to talk this through honestly at your consultation.

Most people describe it as an intense workout sensation rather than pain. You feel the muscles tighten and release in a strong rhythm while you lie on the couch. The intensity can be adjusted during the session, so you stay in control of how it feels. Afterwards your muscles may ache for a day or two, much like after exercise.

EMSculpt isn't suitable during pregnancy, or if you have a pacemaker, an electronic implant, or a metal implant in or near the treatment area. Some medical conditions also rule it out, so we review your health history before any treatment. If you're unsure whether something applies to you, mention it when you book and we will check it at your consultation.

Most people have a course of several sessions over a couple of weeks. We confirm the number at your consultation, based on the area, your starting point and what you'd like to achieve. If a course suits you, six-session and twelve-session passes are available.

Muscles need time to adapt, so changes usually build gradually in the weeks after your course rather than straight away. Results vary from person to person. Research on EMSculpt has mostly followed people for up to around six months, so there is less evidence about the longer term. Like any strength you build, muscle tone is easier to keep if you stay active.

There's no downtime, and you can go back to normal activities straight away. The most common after-effect is muscle aching for a day or two, similar to after a hard workout. Published studies of EMSculpt have reported few problems, but they have been fairly small, so tell us about any new or unexpected symptoms after a session.

Wear comfortable clothing and remove metal jewellery and electronic devices, such as your phone, from the treatment area. Let us know about any changes to your health or medicines before your appointment, even small ones, as they can affect whether treatment is suitable that day.

Single sessions cost £80 for 30 minutes, £100 for 45 minutes and £130 for 60 minutes. Six-session and twelve-session passes are also available for a planned course, and you can see their current prices on our booking page. The in-person consultation is £50, and the discovery call is free.
