What is an 8 point liquid face lift?
"Liquid facelift" is an informal term for non-surgical treatments that use injectables to refresh the face. The "8 point" name refers to treating a number of key areas of the face in one planned session. These areas often support each other, so treating them together can look more balanced than treating a single line.
The treatment uses hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler. HA is a substance found naturally in the skin that holds water. In filler form, it is a gel that restores volume and support where it has been lost.
At Juvenology Clinic, this treatment is a planned, full-face dermal filler treatment. The areas treated, and how much filler goes into each, depend on your assessment. We do not follow a fixed template or a set number of injection points.
How it differs from a surgical facelift
What it does: a liquid face lift restores volume with filler. A surgical facelift lifts and tightens tissue and removes excess skin
Anaesthetic: no general anaesthetic, compared with the general anaesthetic usually used for surgery
Incisions: none, compared with surgical incisions
Duration: filler is temporary and breaks down over time. Surgery is long-lasting, though ageing continues
Loose skin: filler cannot remove or tighten it. Surgery is designed to address it
Filler cannot give the same results as surgery. If loose skin is your main concern, we will tell you.
Which dermal fillers are used for the 8 point liquid face lift?
Juvenology Clinic uses Vivacy's Stylage range alongside other dermal filler products where appropriate. Stylage is a family of hyaluronic acid fillers made by Vivacy, with different formulations for different depths and areas.
In a full-face treatment, more than one product may be used. Vivacy describes Stylage XL and XXL for restoring facial volume, and Stylage S, M and L for filling lines and depressions. The same product is not necessarily used at every point. Product choice depends on the depth, the area and your tissue.
What concerns can an 8 point liquid face lift address?
As we age, the face changes in several ways at once:
Fat pads in the cheeks and temples lose volume and shift lower
Bone in the mid-face and jaw gradually changes shape
Skin loses collagen and elasticity
Lines and folds appear where support has been lost, such as beside the nose and mouth
Together, these changes can make the face look flatter, heavier in the lower third, or more tired. A full-face filler plan may help with general volume loss across the mid-face and lower face, a tired or heavy appearance, deepening folds around the nose and mouth linked to volume loss, and loss of definition in the facial contours. It is less effective where loose skin, rather than volume loss, is the main problem. Results and suitability vary between individuals.
Benefits of an 8 point liquid face lift
Treats the face as a whole, which can give a more balanced result than treating one area
May restore some lost volume and soften the look of related folds
May help the face look less tired
No surgery, incisions or general anaesthetic
Results are visible straight away
Hyaluronic acid filler can usually be dissolved if needed
Who may be suitable?
You may be suitable if you are 18 or over, in good general health, and have volume loss in more than one area of the face. Good candidates want to look refreshed and more rested, while still looking like themselves.
If you have one specific concern, a single-area treatment such as cheek filler or nasolabial fold filler may be more appropriate. If skin quality is the main issue, a skin booster such as Profhilo may help. If you have significant loose skin, a surgical opinion may be the better route.
Who may not be suitable?
This treatment may not be appropriate if you:
Are under 18
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have an infection, spots or inflammation in any area to be treated
Have reacted to filler before, or had filler complications
Have a lot of existing filler in the face that has not been assessed
Have significant skin laxity, where filler may add weight without lifting
Have certain medical conditions or take certain medicines
Expect results similar to a surgical facelift
Please tell us your full medical history and all medicines at your consultation. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice from your prescriber.
What happens during your consultation
A full-face plan needs a full-face assessment. Marina will ask what you see when you look in the mirror and how you would like to feel about your appearance. She will look at the balance between the upper, middle and lower thirds of your face, and at how your features move.
She will review your medical history, medicines, allergies and any previous filler or cosmetic treatment. You will discuss which areas would make the most difference, realistic outcomes, risks and alternatives. You can take the plan away and decide later.
What results can you expect?
The treatment may help restore some lost volume across the face and soften folds linked to that volume loss. Many people describe wanting to look less tired rather than different. The change can be subtle or more noticeable, depending on the plan.
Results depend on your anatomy, the degree of volume loss, your skin quality and the plan agreed. Filler does not tighten loose skin, and it cannot reproduce the results of surgery. Marina will discuss what is realistic for you.
How long does an 8 point liquid face lift last?
Because several areas are treated, different parts of the result may fade at different rates. Firmer fillers in the cheeks often last up to around 18 months, while areas that move more, such as around the mouth, may fade sooner. The JCCP describes typical filler effects as lasting around 6 to 18 months. These are estimates, not guarantees.
Recovery and aftercare
As more areas are treated, temporary effects may be more widespread. You may notice:
Swelling in several areas
Tenderness, particularly when chewing or touching the face
Bruising at injection points
Redness
Temporary unevenness while swelling settles
Most people go back to normal activities soon after, but some prefer to allow a few quiet days before social events. Recovery varies. You will receive aftercare advice. See our aftercare guide for injectable treatments.
Urgent warning signs: contact the clinic immediately on 07413 138 825 if you have severe or worsening pain, or skin in any treated area that turns pale, white, dusky or blotchy. If your vision changes, call 999 or go to A&E immediately.
Risks and considerations
The risks of a full-face treatment are the risks of each area treated. Treating more areas means more injection points and more filler overall. Risks include:
Common: swelling, bruising, tenderness and redness
Lumps or irregularities and asymmetry
Overcorrection: too much filler across the face can look unnatural, so we plan conservatively
Infection, allergic or inflammatory reactions
Vascular occlusion: rarely, filler blocks a blood vessel, which can damage the skin without urgent treatment
Visual complications: very rare but serious, and more likely with injections in certain areas
Most hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed, after a face-to-face assessment by a prescriber.
