What does Profhilo do?

Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel that spreads through the skin to improve hydration, bounce and firmness, mainly on the face and neck. Each syringe holds 64 mg of hyaluronic acid in high and low molecular weight forms. It doesn't add volume or change the shape of your face. It suits skin that looks dull, crepey or tired.

Is Profhilo right for my concern?

It depends on what is bothering you. Profhilo is aimed at skin quality: dryness, dullness and a crepey texture. If you've lost volume, for example in the cheeks, dermal filler may help more. For thin, delicate skin under the eyes, polynucleotides are often chosen instead. At your skin check we'll tell you if another option would suit you better.

What is the difference between Profhilo and Profhilo Structura, and what do they cost?

Profhilo Face is spread through the skin to improve hydration and texture, and costs £250 per session. Profhilo Structura is a firmer formulation placed more deeply in the outer cheek, where loss of support shows at the sides of the face. It costs £350 per session. Which one, if either, suits you is decided at your skin check. We use genuine Profhilo made by IBSA.

What happens during the appointment?

Allow about 30 minutes. Marina checks your skin's hydration, laxity and texture and goes through your medical history. She then marks five points on each side of the face, placed to avoid major blood vessels and nerves, and gives a small injection at each point. Small bumps appear where the gel was placed and usually flatten within hours as it spreads.

Does Profhilo hurt?

Most people feel a brief sting with each of the ten injections, and the discomfort passes quickly. Small raised bumps at the injection points are expected and usually settle the same day. As with any injection, some people have mild redness or a small bruise.

How many sessions will I need, and how long does it last?

Accepted Answer

Most people start with two sessions four weeks apart, which is the manufacturer's recommended starting plan. You book and pay for one session at a time, so there's no course to sign up to. Many people then have a top-up about every six months, but how long results last varies from person to person.

When will I notice a difference?

Accepted Answer

Changes in skin quality tend to build gradually over the weeks after your sessions. The published research on Profhilo is encouraging, but most of it comes from small studies, several linked to the manufacturer. Results vary and aren't guaranteed. We'll talk through what is realistic for your skin before you decide.

Who shouldn't have Profhilo?

We go through your medical history before any treatment. Please tell us if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a skin infection or flare-up in the area, have allergies, or take medicines that affect bleeding, such as blood thinners. These can mean waiting or choosing a different option. If Profhilo isn't right for you, we'll explain why.

What aftercare should I follow?

Avoid make-up for 12 hours, and avoid exercise and alcohol for 48 hours. The small bumps from the injections usually settle the same day. If anything worries you after your treatment, contact the clinic.

Who carries out Profhilo treatment?

Accepted Answer

Marina carries out every Profhilo treatment herself. She is an NMC-registered nurse, verified by the JCCP (Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners), trained in aesthetic injectables, and has more than 25 years of nursing experience. She founded Juvenology Clinic on King Street in Maidstone.

Do you see patients from Kings Hill and West Malling?

Yes, and it's an easy trip. Our clinic at 82 King Street, Maidstone ME14 1BH is around 20 minutes' drive from Kings Hill, West Malling, Aylesford and Larkfield, and Fremlin Walk car park (ME14 1PS) is a short walk away. By train, West Malling and East Malling are on the line to Maidstone East, around 10 minutes' walk from the clinic, and Maidstone bus station is on King Street. We're open Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 19:00, and you can book online at any time.

Question 12

I've had treatment at another clinic. Can I come to you?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Bring whatever details you have from your previous treatment: the product used, the areas treated and roughly when. If you don't have them, that's fine. Marina will assess your face as it is now, ask about what was done before and agree a plan with you, whether that's a top-up, a different approach or waiting a little longer. There's no pressure to go ahead on the day.
