Profhilo in Kent: Could It Help Your Skin Look Firmer, Smoother and More Hydrated?

What Profhilo does, who it may suit, how much it costs and what to expect from treatment at Juvenology Clinic.

Have you noticed that your skin doesn't look quite as fresh as it used to?

Perhaps your cheeks have started to look a little crepey, fine lines are becoming more noticeable, or your skin feels less supple despite using good skincare.

Sometimes there isn't one particular wrinkle that bothers you. It's the overall quality of your skin that seems to have changed.

If that sounds familiar, Profhilo may be worth considering.

Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment designed to improve skin hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which are used to restore or enhance volume in specific areas, Profhilo focuses primarily on improving the condition of the skin.

At Juvenology Clinic in Maidstone, I offer Profhilo as part of a personalised approach to skin rejuvenation, helping you understand whether it is likely to address the changes you've noticed.

If you're considering Profhilo but aren't sure whether it's right for you, book a consultation with me at Juvenology. We can discuss your skin concerns, realistic results and the most suitable options.

What is Profhilo, and how does it work?

Profhilo is an injectable treatment containing a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally present in the skin.

Hyaluronic acid helps tissues retain water, contributing to skin hydration and suppleness. As we age, changes in the skin's structure and composition can affect how hydrated, elastic and firm it appears.

Profhilo contains a combination of high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, manufactured using a technology that creates what are known as hybrid cooperative complexes.

That sounds complicated, but the practical distinction is straightforward.

Rather than being designed to create a particular facial shape, the product spreads within the treated tissues to support improvements in skin quality.

Profhilo is often described as a bioremodelling treatment. This refers to its intended effects on the skin's physical properties, including hydration and elasticity.

Clinical studies have reported improvements in several measures of skin quality following treatment, although the degree of improvement varies and the available evidence has limitations.[1,2]

What can Profhilo help improve?

Profhilo is most relevant when your main concern is the condition of your skin rather than a significant change in facial shape.

There are several reasons someone might consider it.

1. Skin that looks dehydrated or less supple

You might moisturise regularly but still feel that your skin looks less plump or fresh than it did a few years ago.

Profhilo uses injectable hyaluronic acid to support hydration within the skin. Clinical research has shown improvements in measured skin hydration following treatment.[1,2]

That doesn't mean it replaces good skincare or that every type of dryness will respond.

Dryness caused by an impaired skin barrier, irritation or an underlying skin condition may need a different approach.

2. Crepey skin and fine lines

Crepey skin has a thin, finely wrinkled appearance and is often associated with changes in elasticity and skin structure.

Profhilo may help improve the appearance of mild crepiness and certain fine lines when these are associated with reduced skin quality.

However, deeper folds or lines caused mainly by facial muscle movement may require a different treatment.

3. Reduced skin elasticity

Over time, skin may become less resilient and appear less firm.

Studies of Profhilo have reported improvements in some elasticity and skin-laxity measurements, although results have not been consistent across every measure or study.[1,2]

For someone experiencing early changes in firmness, this may make Profhilo an option worth discussing.

It is important to distinguish these changes from significant skin sagging, which Profhilo cannot reliably correct.

4. Changes in skin texture

Skin ageing affects more than wrinkles. The skin's surface can gradually become less even, and its overall appearance may change.

Profhilo may contribute to smoother-looking skin in suitable patients.

But if your main concern is acne scarring, pigmentation or more pronounced textural irregularities, another treatment could be more appropriate.

My guide to collagen and skin ageing explains why these changes develop and why different concerns require different approaches.

Is Profhilo better than dermal fillers?

Infographic from Juvenology comparing Profhilo vs dermal fillers with two portrait photos and bullet points on skin quality vs volume.

This is an important distinction, because both treatments contain hyaluronic acid but are designed for different purposes.

Profhilo focuses on skin quality. Dermal fillers focus on adding or restoring volume and changing contours.

If you're concerned about reduced hydration, crepey skin or mild changes in elasticity, Profhilo may be the more relevant option.

If you've noticed hollowing around your cheeks or temples, or a loss of facial definition, dermal fillers may be more appropriate to discuss.

Neither treatment is automatically better.

A skin-quality treatment won't replace significant lost volume, just as adding volume doesn't necessarily address the underlying condition of the skin.

Some people also have several concerns occurring together, so an assessment may identify more than one possible approach.

If you're unsure, you can explore the Profhilo treatment offered at Juvenology or arrange a consultation before committing to a procedure.

What happens during Profhilo treatment?

Profhilo treatment begins with an assessment of your skin, medical history and treatment goals.

If it is suitable, the product is administered through a series of injections into selected points within the treatment area.

For facial treatment, a commonly used technique involves five injection points on each side of the face. The exact approach must be appropriate for your individual anatomy and the product being used.

You may notice small raised areas at the injection sites immediately afterwards. These generally settle as the product disperses, although some people experience temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising.

How many Profhilo sessions will I need?

A typical initial Profhilo facial treatment course consists of two sessions approximately four weeks apart.

This schedule has been used in published clinical studies and is commonly recommended for facial treatment.[2]

It gives time to assess how the skin responds as changes develop.

Any further treatment or maintenance should be discussed according to your response and goals rather than assumed to be necessary.

Does Profhilo hurt?

Because Profhilo is administered using injections, some temporary discomfort is possible.

People may experience a brief stinging or pinching sensation at the injection points.

Sensitivity varies, and your practitioner should explain what to expect before proceeding.

Is there any downtime?

Profhilo generally involves less recovery than more invasive cosmetic procedures, but it is not completely free of after-effects.

Small bumps, redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising may occur after treatment. These effects are usually temporary, although they can occasionally last longer than expected.

You should follow the individual aftercare advice given by your treating practitioner, including guidance about makeup, exercise, heat exposure and when to seek advice.

When will I see Profhilo results?

Profhilo is not intended to provide the immediate, targeted volume changes associated with dermal fillers.

Changes in skin quality tend to develop gradually over the weeks following treatment.

Some patients may notice improvements in hydration or skin texture earlier, while changes in elasticity and overall appearance can take longer to assess.

In a clinical study of 64 women receiving two treatments four weeks apart, researchers reported improvements in several skin measurements during the following weeks.[2]

A more recent systematic review also found encouraging results across measures of hydration, elasticity and skin laxity.[1]

However, that review included relatively small studies with differences in their methods, and some authors had connections with the product manufacturer.

The evidence supports Profhilo as a treatment worth considering for selected skin-quality concerns, but it does not establish that everyone will achieve the same result.

How long does Profhilo last?

Profhilo does not permanently stop or reverse skin ageing.

Any improvement gradually changes over time, and the duration of a visible effect varies between individuals.

Maintenance treatment may be considered, but the timing should depend on your response rather than a promise that the results will last for a fixed number of months.

Who is a good candidate for Profhilo?

Profhilo may be worth considering if you're concerned about skin that has become:

  • Less hydrated or supple.

  • Crepey or finely wrinkled.

  • Less elastic than it used to be.

  • Mildly lax, without significant tissue descent.

  • Less smooth in texture and appearance.

The most important question isn't simply your age. It's what has actually changed in your skin.

Beige clinic infographic, JUVENOLOGY, asking Who might consider Profhilo? with skin concerns and a woman's portrait.

Someone in their thirties experiencing early changes in elasticity may have different treatment needs from someone in their fifties whose main concern is loss of facial volume.

Your medical history matters too.

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, known sensitivity to product ingredients, active infection in the treatment area and other relevant health factors may make treatment inappropriate or require postponement.

Profhilo is an injectable procedure and carries risks, including infection and allergic reactions. Rare but serious vascular complications are possible with injectable hyaluronic acid treatments.[3]

Sudden severe pain, unusual skin colour changes or visual symptoms after an injection require immediate medical assessment.

For those reasons, I believe treatment suitability should always be established before making a decision.

Profhilo or polynucleotides: which should you choose?

Profhilo and polynucleotides are often discussed together because both are offered for skin-quality concerns.

However, they contain different materials and should not be regarded as interchangeable treatments.

Profhilo uses hybrid complexes of hyaluronic acid, with clinical evidence relating to skin hydration and certain measures of elasticity and skin appearance.

Polynucleotides are derived from nucleic-acid fragments and are being investigated for their potential effects on tissue repair and skin quality.

The clinical evidence for both approaches needs to be considered in relation to the individual concern and the strength of the available studies.

Rather than assuming one is superior, the better question is which treatment has evidence relevant to the changes you want to improve.

I've explored this further in my guide to polynucleotide treatments and skin quality.

Why have Profhilo at Juvenology Clinic?

Choosing an injectable treatment isn't just about the product.

It's also about understanding your skin, receiving appropriate clinical advice and knowing what results you can reasonably expect.

I'm Marina, an NMC-registered nurse and the founder of Juvenology Clinic in Maidstone.

I have more than 25 years of nursing experience and have worked in aesthetic medicine since 2016.

My approach begins with understanding your concerns and assessing whether the treatment you're considering is suitable.

For Profhilo, that means looking at skin condition, facial anatomy, medical history and what you're hoping to improve.

If Profhilo is appropriate, we can discuss the proposed treatment course, potential benefits, limitations, risks and aftercare.

If another option would be more relevant, that is part of the conversation too.

You don't need to arrive knowing exactly which treatment to book.

You can simply tell me what you've noticed about your skin.

Frequently asked questions about Profhilo

Does Profhilo make your face look fuller?

Profhilo is designed primarily to improve skin quality rather than create targeted volume. Although changes in skin hydration can affect the skin's appearance, it should not be considered a replacement for dermal filler when significant volume restoration is the goal.

Can Profhilo help sagging jowls?

Profhilo may improve certain aspects of skin laxity, but it does not reliably lift descended facial tissues or correct significant jowling. If this is your main concern, your consultation should explore the underlying cause and more relevant options.

Is Profhilo suitable for mature skin?

Age alone does not determine suitability. Profhilo may be considered for mature skin with dehydration, fine crepiness and reduced elasticity, but the likely benefit depends on individual skin condition and treatment goals.

Is one Profhilo treatment enough?

A two-session initial course, typically spaced four weeks apart, is commonly used in facial studies and clinical practice. A single session should not automatically be assumed to provide the same outcome as a complete course.

Can I combine Profhilo with other skin treatments?

Some patients may be suitable for more than one type of treatment, but the combination and timing must be assessed individually. Previous procedures, skin sensitivity, treatment areas and recovery requirements all need consideration.
