Laser hair removal aims for long-term reduction in hair, rather than removing every hair for good. Most people see far less regrowth over a course of treatment, but results vary and some hairs can return. Some people need occasional top-up sessions to keep results going.

Most people need a course of several sessions, spaced several weeks apart. Laser only affects hairs in their active growth phase, and not every hair is growing at the same time. As a general guide, facial hair is often treated about every four weeks and body hair every six to eight weeks. Your technician plans your course at your patch test.

Most people tolerate it well. The Soprano ICE is a diode laser with a cooled tip, and it heats the hair gradually, so treatment usually feels warm and prickly. Some areas, such as the upper lip, can feel more sensitive than others. Tell your technician at any point if it feels too uncomfortable.

A qualified laser hair removal technician carries out your treatment. Our technicians are trained to at least Level 4, and are qualified up to Level 5. They work under the clinical oversight of Marina, our founder, an NMC-registered nurse with more than 25 years of nursing experience.

The Soprano ICE can be used on a wide range of skin tones, including darker skin. Its cooled tip helps protect the skin while the laser targets the hair. Darker and tanned skin carries a higher risk of temporary pigment change, so your patch test is especially important and we adjust settings to suit your skin.

Laser works best on darker hair, because it targets pigment. Very fair, grey, white or red hair usually responds poorly. Treatment is not suitable during pregnancy, over a tan or a tattoo, while taking medicines that make the skin sensitive to light, or with certain skin conditions. Your consultation and patch test check whether it suits you.

Every course starts with a 30-minute consultation and patch test, which costs £20. We go through your medical history, medicines, hair colour and the areas you want treated, then test the laser on a small area of skin. This confirms whether treatment suits you and lets your technician plan your course.

Shave the area the day before your appointment. Avoid sun exposure, tanning and self-tan before and during your course. Do not wax, pluck or thread between sessions, because laser needs the hair root in place. Let us know about any new medicines, as some make skin more sensitive to light.

Temporary redness or warmth in the treated area is common and usually settles quickly. Less often, skin can blister, crust or become lighter or darker, and burns are rare. These risks are higher on tanned skin, which is one reason to keep treated areas out of the sun. Contact us promptly if you notice anything that worries you after treatment.
