NON-SURGICAL RHINOPLASTY GUIDE
What is non-surgical rhinoplasty?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty places small amounts of hyaluronic acid (HA) filler at precise points along the nose. Rather than removing anything, it adds volume to areas around an irregularity so the line of the nose looks smoother. For example, filler placed above and below a bump on the bridge can make the profile appear straighter. The amount used is usually small, and the technique is chosen after assessment.
What it can do:
Soften the appearance of a small bump on the bridge
Fill a slight dip or depression
Improve minor unevenness or asymmetry
Make the profile look more balanced with the rest of the face
What it cannot do:
Reduce the size of the nose. Adding filler can make it slightly larger
Narrow the nostrils or the width of the nose
Correct breathing problems or a deviated septum
Give the same results as surgical rhinoplasty
Which dermal fillers are used for non-surgical rhinoplasty?
Juvenology Clinic uses Vivacy's Stylage range alongside other dermal filler products where appropriate. Stylage is a range of hyaluronic acid fillers made by Vivacy, with formulations designed for different depths and purposes.
Vivacy's published product information does not name the nose as a specific indication for any Stylage product. Its volumising products, Stylage XL and XXL, are described for restoring or adding facial volume in general. The product is chosen by Marina after assessment. Nose filler generally needs a gel that holds its shape and stays where it is placed.
What concerns can non-surgical rhinoplasty address?
The nose sits at the centre of the face, so small irregularities can be noticeable, especially in profile. Common concerns include:
A bump on the bridge (dorsal hump) that is small enough to camouflage
A slight dip, or an uneven line along the bridge
A tip that sits slightly low in profile
Mild asymmetry, sometimes after an old injury
How the nose looks also depends on the forehead, cheeks, lips and chin. Sometimes a weak chin makes the nose look more prominent. Marina looks at your whole profile, not just the nose. Suitability depends on your nasal anatomy, skin thickness and medical history.
Benefits of non-surgical rhinoplasty
May smooth the appearance of selected irregularities without surgery
No general anaesthetic or surgical incisions
Results are visible straight away
Usually a short appointment, with no planned recovery period
Hyaluronic acid filler is not permanent, and most HA fillers can be dissolved if needed
Who may be suitable?
You may be suitable if you are 18 or over, in good health, and have a small, specific concern that adding volume can camouflage. The best candidates understand that the aim is a smoother line, not a smaller nose.
If you want your nose made smaller or narrower, or you have breathing problems, surgical rhinoplasty with a surgeon is the appropriate route. If concerns about your appearance cause you significant distress, we may suggest talking to your GP before any cosmetic treatment.
Who may not be suitable?
Nose filler may not be appropriate if you:
Are under 18
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have had surgical rhinoplasty or other nose surgery. Please tell us, as this changes the risk and your suitability
Have an infection, spots or inflammation on or in the nose
Have reacted to filler before, or had filler complications
Have certain medical conditions or take certain medicines
Want a change that filler cannot safely achieve, such as reducing size
Tell us your full medical history and medicines at your consultation. Do not stop any prescribed medicine without advice from your prescriber.
What happens during your consultation
The consultation is where Marina decides whether filler is a safe and sensible option for your nose. She will ask what you would like to change and look at your profile from several angles.
She will go through your medical history, medicines, allergies, any previous nose surgery or injury, and any earlier filler. You will discuss what is achievable, the risks specific to the nose, and alternatives including surgery. If filler is not appropriate, Marina will tell you. You are under no obligation to go ahead.
What results can you expect?
Non-surgical rhinoplasty may help the bridge of the nose look smoother or the profile look more balanced. Changes are usually subtle, because only small amounts of filler can be used safely in the nose.
Results depend on your nasal shape, skin thickness and the size of the irregularity. A large bump may not be suitable for camouflage. Filler cannot guarantee a straight or symmetrical nose. Marina will explain what is realistic for you.
How long does non-surgical rhinoplasty last?
There is no fixed duration. The JCCP describes dermal filler effects as typically lasting around 6 to 18 months, depending on the product and area. How long nose filler lasts for you depends on the product, the amount placed, your metabolism and previous treatment. Marina can give guidance at your consultation.
Recovery and aftercare
Most people return to normal activities after treatment. You may notice:
Mild swelling or redness
Tenderness when touching the nose
Small bruises at the injection points
Slight unevenness while swelling settles
Recovery varies. You will receive aftercare advice after treatment. See our aftercare guide for injectable treatments.
Know the warning signs: contact the clinic immediately on 07413 138 825 if you have severe or worsening pain, or skin on the nose, tip or nearby areas that turns pale, white, dusky, blotchy or blistered. These can be signs that filler is affecting a blood vessel and need urgent treatment. If you have any change in your vision, eye pain or drooping of the eyelid, call 999 or go to A&E immediately.
Risks and considerations
The nose has a complex blood supply, with vessels that connect to those supplying the eye. This makes it one of the highest-risk areas for filler. In a 2024 review of published cases of vision loss after filler, the nose was the most commonly involved injection site. Risks include:
Common: swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising
Lumps or irregularities, and asymmetry
Infection, allergic or inflammatory reactions
Vascular occlusion: filler blocking a blood vessel, which can damage the skin of the nose without urgent treatment
Visual complications: rare but serious, including permanent loss of sight. Vision loss after filler often does not recover, even with treatment
These complications are rare, but they are not impossible, and no practitioner can rule them out. Most hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved if needed, after face-to-face assessment by a prescriber. Please weigh these risks carefully.
