A single blood test that measures IgE antibodies to a very wide range of allergens using the ALEX² Allergy Explorer, a multiplex macroarray. According to the manufacturer, it covers 295 allergens (117 allergen extracts and 178 individual molecular components) and also measures total IgE.

After you order, we contact you to arrange your blood draw. A postal finger-prick kit may be possible for this test: please ask before ordering.
The test shows sensitisation, meaning that your immune system has made IgE to an allergen. Sensitisation is not the same as allergy: many people have IgE to foods or pollens that cause them no symptoms. Results only become meaningful when they are interpreted alongside a careful history of what happens when you are exposed.
What is measured
- Specific IgE to allergen extracts and molecular components, including foods, pollens, house dust mites, animal danders, moulds, insect venoms and latex
- Total IgE: the overall level of IgE in your blood
Useful for
- People with symptoms suggestive of IgE-mediated allergy who want a broad profile to discuss with their GP or an allergy service
- Exploring possible cross-reactivity, for example between pollens and plant foods
- People with several suspected triggers, where testing allergens one by one would be impractical
Sample: venous blood (serum). Allergens: 295 plus total IgE. Not for urgent assessment: if you have signs of anaphylaxis, call 999.
