Testosterone is a steroid hormone made mainly by the testes in men and, in smaller amounts, by the ovaries and adrenal glands in women. This test measures testosterone in a single blood sample. You receive the laboratory's report, with each result shown against the laboratory's reference range.
Before you book
- Price: £50. This covers laboratory analysis and your laboratory report.
- Where: Your blood sample is taken from a vein by our team at 82 King Street, Maidstone, or at a partner clinic near you, anywhere in the UK.
- Preparation: Book a morning appointment, ideally around 9am, after an overnight fast where possible.
- Results: the laboratory's report shows each result beside its reference range. We confirm the expected turnaround and any collection fee before you book.
- Optional: a written interpretation (£50) or a results consultation with Marina (£100).
After you order, we contact you to arrange your blood draw. A postal finger-prick kit may be possible for this test: please ask before ordering.
Testosterone is highest in the morning and varies from day to day, so one result is a starting point. Clinical guidelines confirm a low result with a repeat early-morning test before drawing conclusions.
What is measured
- Testosterone (measured): the total amount of testosterone in the blood, including the protein-bound and unbound fractions.
Useful for
- Men with symptoms such as low sex drive, fewer morning erections or erectile difficulties who want a result to take to their GP
- Women with irregular periods, excess facial or body hair or persistent acne, as one part of a GP or specialist assessment
- A repeat morning measurement to compare with an earlier result
Sample: venous blood (serum), ideally taken in the morning. Biomarkers: 1. Interpretation: not included in the price; an optional written report or results consultation can be added.
