Progesterone is the hormone released by the ovary after an egg has been released. A blood test taken in the second half of the menstrual cycle, about seven days before your next period is due, is the standard way to check whether ovulation happened in that cycle. This test measures progesterone in one blood sample and gives you the laboratory's report with its reference range.

Timing makes or breaks this test. The same person can have a low result one week and a clearly raised result the next, depending on where they are in their cycle, so please read the preparation notes before booking.
