Chemical peels

Before your appointment

Please tell us before your appointment if you are pregnant, you have an active cold sore, or broken or sunburnt skin, you have recently used retinoid products, or your skin tends to darken after spots or irritation.

On the day

Your skin is cleansed, the peel is applied and timed, then removed. Most people feel tingling or warmth.

After your treatment

Use gentle skincare and a high-factor SPF every day while your skin settles.

What's usually expected

Most people have mild redness, dryness or light flaking for a few days rather than sheets of peeling skin. Stinging, redness, dryness and flaking are common and settle within days. Pigment changes, infection and scarring are possible but uncommon. Deeper skin tones have a higher risk of temporary darkening after a peel, and anyone prone to cold sores has a small chance of a flare. Wearing SPF every day lowers the risk of darkening.
