BOTOX® (onabotulinumtoxinA)
- 01
Botox is a prescription-only medicine. Let me be very clear about that. It's not something you can buy over the counter or get from a beauty salon. It's a medical treatment requiring proper training, anatomical knowledge, and regulatory oversight.
The active ingredient is botulinum toxin type A, which has been purified and standardized for medical use. When injected precisely into specific muscles, it temporarily blocks the nerve signals that cause those muscles to contract. The result? Smoother skin, fewer wrinkles, and in medical applications like hyperhidrosis or bruxism, genuine therapeutic relief.
- 02
Here's the science. When your brain wants a muscle to move, it sends a signal via nerve endings. That signal releases acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that tells the muscle to contract. Botox blocks acetylcholine release.
No signal equals no contraction. The muscle relaxes.
For facial wrinkles, this means dynamic lines caused by repetitive movement, things like frown lines, forehead creases, crow's feet, gradually soften. The skin above those muscles can rest and smooth out.
For hyperhidrosis, the same mechanism applies to sweat glands. Botox blocks the nerve signals that activate excessive sweating. It's beautifully elegant when you understand the physiology.
What I love about this treatment is how precise it is. I'm not numbing your entire face. I'm targeting specific motor points on specific muscles. That's why anatomical knowledge matters so much.

Me. Nurse Marina.
I'm an NMC-registered aesthetics nurse with over a decade of clinical experience, but here's what really sets me apart. I spent years in cardiac nursing before transitioning into aesthetics. That background taught me something critical: precision isn't optional.
In cardiac nursing, knowing your anatomy can literally save lives. Missing a vessel, misjudging depth, these things have consequences. I bring that same level of anatomical rigor to every Botox treatment.
I'm also BACN registered, JCCP verified, ACE Group registered, and a Royal College of Nursing member. I follow evidence-based protocols for every treatment. No shortcuts. No trend-chasing. Just safe, effective medicine.
- 04
I treat both cosmetic and medical concerns. Let me break this down.
For facial aesthetics, I work with forehead lines, those horizontal creases that form when you raise your eyebrows. I treat frown lines between the brows, the area we call the glabella. Crow's feet around the eyes. Bunny lines on the nose. Even subtle areas like chin dimpling or a gummy smile.
Masseter Botox is increasingly popular. That's treatment of the large jaw muscles. It helps with bruxism if you clench or grind your teeth, and it can also slim the lower face for a softer jawline.
Then there's hyperhidrosis treatment. Excessive sweating in the underarms, palms, or soles of the feet. This is life-changing for people who've struggled with severe sweating for years.
Every treatment area requires different dosing, different injection depths, different anatomical considerations. That's the art within the science.
- 05
We start with consultation. Always.
I'll ask about your medical history, current medications, and what you're hoping to achieve. Then I'll assess your facial anatomy. I'm looking at muscle strength, asymmetries, movement patterns. Where do you hold tension? Which muscles are overactive?
Once we've agreed on a treatment plan, the injections take maybe 15 to 20 minutes. I use a very fine needle. You'll feel tiny pinpricks, yes, but most patients are surprised by how quick and tolerable it is.
After treatment, I'll give you comprehensive aftercare guidance. What to avoid, what to expect, when you'll see results. Then you're free to leave. No downtime. Most people go straight back to work or their daily activities.
- 06
Botox isn't instant. The neuromodulator needs time to work.
You'll start noticing improvement around day 3 to 7. Maybe your forehead feels less mobile. Maybe those frown lines soften slightly. Full results take about two weeks as the product reaches maximum effectiveness.
This is why I always schedule a two-week review. I want to see how you've responded, check symmetry, assess if any areas need a tiny adjustment. Getting Botox right is about precision, not guessing.
- 07
This varies depending on the treatment area and your individual metabolism.
For facial Botox in areas like the forehead, frown lines, or crow's feet, expect 3 to 4 months. Some patients stretch it to 5 months, especially after multiple treatments when muscles become trained to relax.
Masseter Botox lasts longer, typically 4 to 6 months. The masseter is a large, strong muscle. It needs more product and holds results longer.
Hyperhidrosis treatment is the longest lasting, around 6 to 7 months. Sometimes longer. I've had patients go 8 or 9 months between treatments.
Here's what affects longevity: your metabolism, muscle strength, physical activity level, and how much you use those treated muscles. Active metabolisms break down Botox faster. Stronger muscles require higher doses.
- 08
Not if it's done correctly.
Let me be very clear about my approach. I do not want you to look frozen. I do not want your eyebrows stuck at your hairline. I do not want you to lose all expression.
My goal is natural refinement. Softening lines while maintaining movement. You should still be able to smile, frown, and express emotion. You should just look more rested, less lined, more like yourself on a really good day.
In my cardiac days, I learned that protocols exist because they work. Same principle here. There are evidence-based dosing guidelines for Botox. I follow them. I start conservatively. I'd rather see you back in two weeks for a tiny top-up than overtreat you and leave you looking artificial.
- 09
There's essentially no downtime. You can return to work immediately.
You might have tiny pin-prick marks at injection sites. Maybe slight redness. Occasionally minor swelling. These resolve within a few hours, sometimes sooner.
Here's my aftercare protocol. Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 4 hours. Don't lie flat for 4 hours. Skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Avoid saunas, steam rooms, or anything that significantly raises your core temperature for 24 hours.
Why? Because we want the Botox to stay exactly where I've placed it. Pressure, heat, and increased blood flow can potentially cause migration before the product has bound to the nerve endings.
Most patients schedule Botox during a lunch break. Seriously. It's that convenient.
- 10
Let's talk about what's normal versus what's a complication.
Normal, expected side effects include mild redness at injection points, slight swelling, occasional bruising. These are tissue responses to injection. They're temporary. They resolve within 24 to 48 hours.
Rare complications include ptosis, which is drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow. This happens if Botox migrates to muscles we didn't intend to treat. It's temporary and resolves as the product wears off, but it's frustrating.
How do I prevent complications? Anatomical precision. I know exactly where the frontalis muscle ends. I know where the levator palpebrae sits. I inject in the right locations at the right depths. I follow evidence-based protocols.
In over a decade of practice, serious complications are exceptionally rare. But they're the reason I take training, anatomy, and technique so seriously.
- 11
Yes, when performed by a qualified medical professional following proper protocols.
Botox has been used safely for both cosmetic and medical applications for over 30 years. The safety data is robust. The product is FDA and CE approved. It's one of the most studied aesthetic treatments in existence.
What makes it unsafe? Improper administration. Inadequate training. Poor anatomical knowledge. Lack of medical oversight.
This is why I'm so passionate about keeping Botox in medical hands. You need someone who understands facial anatomy, vascular supply, contraindications, and complication management.
At Juvenology, every treatment follows strict medical protocols. I maintain proper infection control standards. I use only licensed, traceable products from authorized suppliers. I never cut corners on safety.

Yes. Absolutely.
Hyperhidrosis treatment with Botox is genuinely life-changing for people who've struggled with severe sweating. We're not talking about normal perspiration. We're talking about sweat that soaks through clothes, affects confidence, limits clothing choices, impacts social situations.
Here's how it works. I inject tiny amounts of Botox intradermally, just beneath the skin surface, across the affected area. The product blocks the nerve signals to sweat glands. Only the treated glands are affected. Your body continues normal temperature regulation everywhere else.
Results last 6 to 7 months on average. Some patients get even longer. It's one of the most satisfying treatments I perform because the relief is so immediate and profound.
I treat underarms most commonly, but I also treat palms and soles of feet. Each area requires different technique and dosing.
- 13
Yes, and I often recommend it.
Botox addresses dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement. Dermal fillers restore volume loss and treat static wrinkles. Skin boosters improve hydration and skin quality. Medical facials address texture and tone.
These treatments work synergistically. Botox relaxes the muscles. Filler restores structure. Skin boosters hydrate from within. Together, they create comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
I'll assess your needs during consultation and recommend a treatment plan tailored to your anatomy and goals. Sometimes that's Botox alone. Sometimes it's a combination approach.
- 14
Pricing depends on the number of areas treated and the amount of product needed.
I'll give you transparent pricing during consultation with absolutely no obligation to proceed. I don't believe in pressure tactics. You need to make an informed decision that's right for you.
What I will say: quality matters. The Botox I use is licensed and traceable. My training is extensive and ongoing. My insurance is comprehensive. My protocols are evidence-based.
You're not just paying for product. You're paying for anatomical expertise, medical safety, and someone who genuinely cares about getting it right.
