Can I Get Botox When I'm Pregnant? Is it Safe?

Updated: May 30

Two women sit on a beige couch, one pregnant, gently holding her belly. Both wear light clothing and smile warmly in a cozy room.

Pregnancy is such a beautiful, magical time, isn’t it? With all the changes happening, you might be wondering about your usual beauty treatments especially Botox.

So, you’re probably asking yourself: “Is Botox safe while pregnant?” or “Can I get Botox when I’m expecting?”

These are really common questions, and it’s totally okay to feel curious or a little cautious!

Pregnancy and Medications

Your body is nurturing a tiny human, amazing, right?! Because your body is changing so much, medications and treatments are often limited during pregnancy. Even though Botox works locally, we just don’t have enough info about how it affects the baby, so it’s better to be safe and avoid it.

Expert Advice

Doctors and experts from places like the NHS and UKTIS recommend waiting until after pregnancy to get Botox. It’s not because Botox is proven harmful, more like, we just don’t have enough proof that it’s completely safe yet.

Had Botox Before Pregnancy? No Stress!

If you had Botox before you knew you were pregnant, try to relax! The risk to your baby is very low, and most experts say it’s unlikely to cause harm. Just keep your healthcare team in the loop to be extra safe.

Safe Alternatives During Pregnancy

You can still glow beautifully without Botox during pregnancy! Here are some lovely options:

  • Gentle skincare: Think hydrating serums with hyaluronic acid and niacinamide (avoid retinol and strong acids!).

  • Pregnancy-safe treatments: Facials, dermaplaning, and gentle peels.

  • Self-care: Hydrate, rest well, eat nourishing food, and soak up those lovely moments.

Avoid ingredients like retinol, hydroquinone, and salicylic acid in high concentrations during pregnancy, they’re not considered safe in larger amounts.
