At Juvenology Clinic, we offer Therapeutic Venesection for men who need to lower their blood haematocrit levels, which can become elevated as a result of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). This safe and effective treatment involves the controlled removal of blood, helping to reduce the number of red blood cells and improve blood flow. Why Therapeutic Venesection? Men undergoing TRT often experience an increase in red blood cell production, which can elevate haematocrit levels, leading to thicker blood. High haematocrit levels increase the risk of blood clots, stroke, or heart attack. Therapeutic venesection helps to: Lower haematocrit levels to prevent complications. Improve circulation by reducing blood viscosity. Maintain cardiovascular health by controlling the number of red blood cells. The procedure is similar to donating blood, with a controlled amount of blood being removed to help reduce the red blood cell concentration. This treatment is essential for managing blood health in individuals on long-term TRT. The venesection process is very similar to having a normal venous blood test – however our nurse will draw a larger quantity of blood from your veins, so the process takes a bit longer. It is more akin to the process of donating blood – our nurse will be checking your blood pressure than begin collecting blood. The process should only take an hour, and then you can carry on as normal.
